Korean Banana Milk (Binggrae Copycat)

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon imitation vanilla extract
  • 1/2 scant teaspoon LorAnn Banana Bakery Emulsion* (buy it on Amazon)

Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl or pitcher and stir to combine. Keep refrigerated. Makes one quart banana milk.

*Other recipes for banana milk use real bananas. That results in a banana smoothie flavor rather than the classic banana candy flavor of Korean banana milk. Banana extract requires nearly a whole bottle to get enough banana flavor, but then is completely overwhelmed by the taste of alcohol. This flavoring is alcohol-free and nails the banana candy flavor!

Grinch Punch

  • Hawaiian Punch Polar Blast
  • Sparkling White Grape Juice
  • Orange Juice, pulp free
  • Vanilla frosting
  • Nonpareils or sprinkles, lime green
  • clear plastic or glass cups/goblets (9oz+)*
  • clear, round glass ornaments*

Pour the nonpareils/sprinkles into a small bowl or plate. Turning the cup upside down, dip the rim into the frosting, then into the nonpareils/sprinkles so they coat the cup rim. Pour into the cup approximately 4oz Hawaiian Punch and 2oz sparkling grape juice. Remove the top of an ornament and pour 2-3oz orange juice into the bulb. Replace the top of the ornament and set the ornament on the top of the cup. Repeat for the other cups and ornaments. When ready to drink, uncap the ornament and pour the orange juice into the cup.

*Make sure the opening of the cup is narrow enough to hold up a standard ornament. I used the Great Value 100 count clear 9oz cups. Use glass ornaments only, as plastic ornaments are not likely to be food safe. Wash/rinse before and after use.

Butterbeer

Soda

  • 2 liters cream soda
  • 1 cup Smuckers Butterscotch Sundae Syrup

Cream

  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup Smuckers Butterscotch Sundae Syrup

Mix the soda in a pitcher (you may need to do this in 2 batches). In a large bowl, mix the cream with a whisk until it’s about half whipped (no stiff peaks, but not super runny). Pour the soda into a cup and add a thin layer of cream on top. You can freeze the soda portion and crush it in a blender to make the frozen slushie version. Tastes just like the ones at Harry Potter World!

Watermelon Agua Fresca

20200705_201825

  • 4 c watermelon, cubed
  • 2 c water
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 4 c ice

Add watermelon to a blender and blend until liquid. Strain the watermelon juice through a fine mesh sieve (you can skip this step if you don’t mind the pulp) into a large pitcher. Add water and sugar, then mix until the sugar dissolves. Add the ice and serve.

Horchata

20200802_170532

  • 1 c long grain white rice (dry, uncooked)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks (approx. 3 inches each)
  • 4 c water
  • 1/2 c granulated sugar (or more to taste)
  • 1 t vanilla extract

Add rice, cinnamon sticks, and water to a high speed blender. Blend about 30 seconds on high speed or until roughly chopped. Allow to sit for at least 3 hours, or overnight.

Strain through a fine mesh sieve, keeping the liquids. Return to blender and add sugar and vanilla. Blend an additional 30 seconds. Chill at least one hour and serve. For additional creaminess, add 1 cup milk.

Root Beer / Cream Soda

  • 3 gallons water
  • 4 oz Root Beer Concentrate
  • 1 lb sugar
  • 1 lb dry ice

In a 5-gallon drink cooler, mix water, root beer concentrate, and sugar. Taste and add more if needed (it should taste like a good root beer, but flat).

Outside or in a very large room (for ventilation), add the dry ice (use tongs – do NOT touch the dry ice with your fingers). Mixture will begin to “boil.” Place cooler lid on top, but DO NOT SECURE. The lid will help the root beer carbonate more thoroughly, but, if pressurized by being sealed, the cooler will explode. Dry ice may solidify around nozzle and require that the root beer be served with a ladle from the top.

Pour and enjoy!

For cream soda, substitute root beer concentrate with equal parts vanilla extract and imitation rum extract. Feel free to get creative with other soda flavors!
